Cars in Germany's City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Officers stated they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then located numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
