The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive a key figure informed team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the need for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet community desires.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the entire text from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that partnership to endure.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our audience.
The trust in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the new Director of the team. Following several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having dedicated the recent years producing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting Ben next week. We are all looking forward to continue observing the evolution of the game in the weeks to follow.
The President

Title Information and Vision
The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the official summary states. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and tests that shift every session. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or aim high, risk it all, and hope your group can secure victory? The decision is up to you."
The game lacks an official release date or consoles, but fans can expect more updates as production continues.
