The Reason the Democratic Party Has Concealed their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

The move by the Democratic National Committee to block the release regarding its internal autopsy report on the 2024 election appears shocking but not surprising. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body operates closer to a communications shop rather than an electoral entity focused on cultivating grassroots capacities capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Culture That Avoids Dissent

Reluctant to break with the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has remained within that legacy throughout this past year. Releasing the findings might have shown whether the leadership actually want to foster open debate regarding the missteps that enabled Donald Trump to return to the White House. Instead, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there is little to be learned from the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

The top priority: will this lead to victory? If not, it’s a distraction from our fundamental goal," a rationale reportedly given to justify concealing the analysis.

Critical Problems a Report Would Have Examined

An autopsy report of substance would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. These include:

  • Electoral Disenchantment: Failing to retain among millions of voters that backed the party's candidate in 2020 was decisive in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined decision by the incumbent to run again, and an extremely delayed step-aside, is viewed as denying the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning the Working-Class Base: Amid rising costs, the electoral effort allegedly accommodating corporate donors' interests while failing to confront the impact of big business.
  • A Foreign Policy Effect: The refusal to shift a stance regarding a ongoing war is cited as losing many voters, particularly among youth voters, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Young Voter Support: Polling data indicates a major decrease of support for the party from the youth electorate.

A History of Evasion

This refusal aligns with a pattern to avoid uncomfortable facts. It echoes a situation where the vast majority of elected Democrat in Washington supported a sitting president's decision for running for re-election right up until a poor public debate performance compelled a change.

Meanwhile, overwhelming numbers of the electorate had been repeatedly informing researchers that they opposed that candidate to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Concerns

A thorough autopsy would also probe issues about financial allocations, including what sums went to high-priced advisors as well as advertising contractors over the course of an electoral effort that managed to spend an enormous sum over a few months.

A Larger Implication

At its core, the blockage regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a deference toward the established hierarchy who engineered a losing presidential campaign. The implication for ordinary supporters – including countless loyal volunteers – is that they cannot have a right to understand the lessons party chiefs have learned from an analysis compiled from extensive interviews.

A party unable to publicly examine where it went wrong will struggle to break free from the pattern that proved so advantageous to their opponents.
